On the 16th of May, 2020, another African giant (in view) was founded. TheReformers, a non-governmental organization aimed at accelerating Africa out of poverty and hunger using extra value-added and all-inclusive education, mentorship to build people-centric leaders, skill empowerment, and job creation was established. After about 4 months of establishment, having initiated and executed quite a few numbers of projects connected to achieving the big goal(some of which include; the skill up program where over 600 individuals were trained and mentored in graphics design and video animations, the online school project which kept over 450 secondary school students at pace with their education during the COVID-19 break, etc), the organization exhibited a tremendous upswing in operation and administration. This propelled the organization to move a step further by investing in the educational sector of the African economy.
Due to the educational gap being demonstrated between the privileged and underprivileged across the continent, TheReformers, in partnership with the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers National Students Forum(NIMechE-NSF) are determined to bring an end to this inequality in education by initiating a project called the SECONDARY SCHOOL LIBRARY PROJECT. The purpose of this project is to establish and/or equip libraries in all public secondary schools across Africa, starting with our homeland, Nigeria. The project is to ensure that the so-called educational gap between the two economic status is bridged by providing free and easy access to necessary learning materials for all African secondary school students.
The campaign for the execution of the project began on the 2nd of October, 2020. After several calls for donations (in cash, books, and kind), the organization received immense support from various sources, not leaving out the massive internal support from members of the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers (NIMechE) and members of TheReformers as well. With the support received so far, TheReformers foremost library was launched on the 20th of November, 2020 at Government Secondary School Hai-Rayfield, Jos, Plateau state and is gradually undergoing stocking (with books).
All thanks to God and our donors across the world for making the first edition of the project a realization. Special thanks also go to the initiator of the project in person of Lawal Richard Oluwaseun, the project manager in the person of Sherifat Oyelakin, NIMechE immediate past president in the person of Onah Samuel Adakole, and the chief launcher of the library in the person of Mr. Retnan Daser (President, Arewa House). The entirety of the members of TheReformers and the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers (NIMechE) are much appreciated as well. We hope to do more in stocking the library with books and hence, continue to seek the support of the public.
